Introduction

Yes, Archie has a big green face

And his garden is a beautiful place

When it feels hot as the sun shines bright

On go the sprinklers, it’s quite a sight!

This Artichoke has many friends, that’s a fact for sure

When one feels sad or lonely, he has just the cure

He may act understanding or he may be silly indeed,

To see his friends happy again, he’ll give them what they need.

It may be they’re just tired from playing in the weeds.

1) ARTICHOKE: YOU’RE A FUNNY BLOKE !

Archie is a funny guy

You might ask and wonder why

He often tells stories and rhymes that are cute

And makes others laugh from their top to their root.

Now other Artichokes may tell stories as well

And come up with rhymes clear as a bell

But Archie just seems to have a knack

His wit, some say, is sharp as a tack.

2) ARTICHOKE: CAN YOU SPARE A DIME I’M BROKE ?

Archie never has much money

He’d rather have a day that’s sunny

To play and frolic to him is best

North and south, east and west.

But a helping hand he’ll gladly lend

It doesn’t matter, stranger or friend

For instance he feels good all over

Helping Mrs. Celery through the clover.

3) ARTICHOKE: ARE YOU SLEEPING OR AWOKE ?

Artichokes can really sleep

Is that a secret you can keep?

When they get tired all they do

Is count red radishes two by two.

Some of you may think of sheep

When it’s your time to go to sleep

But Archie isn’t at all that way

He’d rather count vegetables any day.

4) ARTICHOKE: DO YOU LIKE TO SHOWER OR SOAK ?

Archie can play in the bathtub forever

He makes shapes in the suds that are really quite clever

Animals, people, vegetables and fruit

A boat and a train that I thought I heard toot.

Artichokes can swim, yes indeed, you bet!

They love diving deep and getting all wet

You must always be careful in the tub or the pool

The water feels great, whether warm or cool.

5) ARTICHOKE: ARE YOU THIRSTY, YES OR NOPE ?

Archie and all plants sometimes must drink

Is that what you thought, is that what you think?

At times their thirst in the garden needs quenching

When the sprinklers come on they get quite a drenching.

All plants are living, haven’t you heard?

As alive as a horse or a cat or a bird

That is why plants need water and care

Without these small gifts they can look quite bare.

6) ARTICHOKE: IS THAT FRED I JUST HEARD CROAK ?

Archie met a frog named Fred

And this is what to him was said:

“I fell off my log, how clumsy of me

and now I’m all dirty, can’t you see?

I’d like to clean my skin so green

Can I jump into your washing machine?”

Now Archie was shocked to hear of Fred’s plight

And lent him his washer all day and all night.

7) ARTICHOKE: COMING HOME TO MEET YOUR FOLKS !

Archie calls his folks back home

For this he uses a tiny cellphone

They always say “You’re such a dear”

They sound as if they’re very near.

Archie may ask “Well how are you too?

Please tell me what’s what and if it is new.”

He always likes calling whenever he can

Or he may write a card with paper and pen.

8) ARTICHOKE: HAVE YOU LATELY HEARD A JOKE ?

Some Artichokes can never tell

A funny story very well

They may tell a story once in a while

But say the words without much style.

Now Archie can do most anything

He may tell a joke or dance or sing

He’s always doing something new

In that way he’s a lot like you.

9) ARTICHOKE: IS THERE A CAMPFIRE IN THAT SMOKE ?

It’s fun to sit ‘round a big campfire

Until late at night when all will tire

Archie and friends sit for hours telling tales

Stories with everything from ghosts to whales.

The flames of the fire seem to dance all around

Making crackling noises and snapping sounds

The heat from the fire warms all of the fellows

While they listen to stories and roasting marshmallows.

10) ARTICHOKE: COME TO BREAKFAST, OLD SLOW POKE !

Breakfast is a very important meal

As important as spokes on a bicycle wheel

It helps you to start when the day’s just begun

So you’ll be already to jump, skip and run.

Now Archie likes breakfast each morning at dawn

As the sun starts to rise he lets out a yawn

And stretches all over and scratches and squirms

Then sits down to eat with his friends, the worms.

11) ARTICHOKE: THAT’S A WALNUT OR AN OAK !

Archie likes hiking through the trees

It’s peaceful and quiet usually

He and his friends walk down the trail

Over the hill and through the dale.

The trees are so tall and their branches so long

It makes them all feel like singing a song

It’s hard to believe that when trees are born

They all start the size of a tiny acorn.

12) ARTICHOKE: BATHING SUITS AND SWIMMING STROKES !

Artichokes don’t wear fancy clothes

Sometimes a hat or perhaps a few bows

Archie however can often be seen

Wearing polka dot shorts or designer jeans.

He’ll sometimes make quite a stir

Before he enters the water

The swimming suits you’ll see him wear

Get smiles and snickers and quite a few stares.
